CHÂTEAU GILBERT & GAILLARD
Philippe Gaillard and François Gilbert, creators of the Gilbert & Gaillard brand and the Guides of the same name fell in love with the Languedoc region 25 years ago. François Gilbert was then writing a thesis on the terroirs of Saint-Chinian to obtain his doctorate.
The Saint-Chinian appellation area is located north of Béziers in the Hérault department. It covers the territory of 20 municipalities. The terroir is divided into two very different zones: clay-limestone in the south and schistose in the north. The climate is typically Mediterranean, hot and dry.

With many years of experience and tasting through the various vineyards that the world knows (South Africa, California, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc.), the two experts have chosen to put their know-how at the service of 'a wine estate on their land of predilection. The terroir is made up of limestone scree at an altitude of 200 meters, giving wines of finesse, freshness and beautiful elegance. Their desire at Château Gilbert & Gaillard is to let this fabulous terroir express itself, worthy of the greatest vintages. Together with the property team, they strive to create value by combining both tradition and innovation. Horse-drawn plowing is used for viticulture when the renovated cellar with its Nico Velo concrete vats ensures optimal vinification. These vats are found in particular in the most prestigious Bordeaux châteaux such as Cheval Blanc.

Château Gilbert & Gaillard is located in the town of Puisserguier. Located in the middle of a 3000 hectare park classified Natura 2000, the environment gives pride of place to the garrigue, rich in thyme, rosemary, junipers, wild fennel, but also in pine forests, so many scents in which the 15 hectares of vines and which communicate it to the grape. The Mediterranean climate guarantees generous sunshine, sufficient rainfall in autumn and spring, and above all the frequent presence of the north wind, the famous cers which, because it caresses the vines three days out of four, naturally maintains a very good sanitary condition and allows treatment to be kept to a minimum. Everything is gathered here to offer the vines of Château Gilbert & Gaillard - Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, aged on average 25 years - ideal conditions: to produce healthy, ripe and remarkably expressive grapes.
